Phillies vs. Astros 8:03pm
(World Series Game 3)
Series Tied 1-1
Astros Moneyline (-130)
This World Series has SteadyPicks members in a unique situation from a betting perspective. For those who are new to the website, our system has an open bet on the Astros to win the World Series from October 5th at (+425). This was our one and only pick to win the World Series. However, we are also a Philadelphia based company, so we absolutely do not want those tickets cashing! The beauty of our system here is that there is no emotion that goes into these picks. Our data identifies the pick with the most expected value, and that's what we roll with. In this game 3 matchup, the Astros without a doubt have an edge in this starting pitching matchup. Lance McCullers Jr. faced the Phillies once this season back in early October. He threw 6 innings, allowed 1 earned run and struck out 5. Noah Syndergaard has thrown 9.1 innings against the Astros this season, and only allowed 3 earned runs. That being said, his strikeout rate is alarmingly low (just 4 Ks in those 9.1 innings), and his walk rate is way up. If you look at the complete body of work for these two pitchers, Lance McCuller Jr. has been much better this season. The Astros had the #1 bullpen in the regular season, and that carried into the playoffs as well. Their bullpen has a 0.89 ERA this postseason. The Phillies bullpen has a 2.65 ERA this postseason, but they are far outperforming their bullpen metrics from the regular season which alarms us a bit. The Phillies bullpen ranked bottom 8 in the entire MLB during the regular season. Offensively, the Phillies are right there with the Astros, and may even have an edge behind this home crowd. In terms of nearly everything else (starting pitching, bullpen, and defensively), the Astros have the edge. We will be pulling for a Phillies upset, but our bet is one unit on the Astros moneyline. BetMGM currently has the best number in market on the Astros.
