Due to a poor Diamondbacks win/loss record, Zac Gallen’s performance last season flew a bit under the radar. Gallen finished the season with opponents hitting just .186 against him, which was the best mark in the entire MLB. He ranked 1st in the NL in WHIP, and 4th in the NL in ERA. Zac Gallen posted a 1.61 ERA in his final 8 starts of the season, consistently posting Cy Young worthy metrics. It's also worth noting, the Diamondbacks should be better this season, which will only help the cause for Gallen in this Cy Young race. The D-backs are expected to be the fastest team in the league, and they have a fantastic defense. For those who aren't sold on this Diamondbacks roster, consider that Sandy Alcantara won the Cy Young award on the Marlins last season with a 14-9 record. Zac Gallen went 12-4 on a below average team last year. So again, the improvements the Diamondbacks have made in the offseason should only help the cause here for Gallen.
