Mariners vs. Rays 10:10pm
Mariners Moneyline (+122)
The Rays are one of the most popular public bets on the Friday slate behind their ace Shane McClanahan. Before you rush to the place your Rays wager with 80-90% of the public, we encourage you to dig deeper into this matchup. Rays starter Shane McClanhan has been fantastic this season (11-1 with a 2.33 ERA). However, it’s important to know that McClanahan has been dealing with a lingering back issue. This issue caused the Rays to pull him after just 3.2 innings in his last start. Prior to that start, McClanahan had allowed a home run in 4 consecutive starts. His fastball velocity has decreased about 3 mph this month. McClanahan's strikeout rate has dipped from averaging between 10-11 K’s per 9 innings in March through May, to just 6.9 in June. The back injury likely plays a good part in these metrics dropping. This is the Rays second straight road series, and 4th consecutive game without a day off. The Mariners had the day off yesterday, and carry a fresh bullpen into this matchup. Mariners starter Bryce Miller has pitched very well at home in Seattle this season. Miller had one rough home outing against the Yankees, but outside of that he is 4-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 0.56 WHIP in Seattle. Including that Yankees start, Miller still has a 0.84 WHIP at home. In what looks to be very close to a 50-50 matchup, we will opt to fade the public and take the plus money with the home dogs.
