Saint Mary's vs. UConn 6:10pm
(Round of 32)
Saint Mary's +4.5 (-115)
This UConn team looked as good as any team in the tournament in round 1. Dan Hurley’s group was dominant in every metric. That being said, it’s to no surprise that UConn is reported to be generating a large majority of the betting tickets in this matchup. The Huskies are currently the most heavily bet public team of the day. Something to consider here, UConn typically has a big rebounding edge on their opponents. We saw UConn’s big men (Adama Sanogo & Donovan Clingan) impose their will on an undersized Iona team. This will not be the case in this matchup against Saint Mary’s. The Gaels are an elite rebounding team on both ends of the court, and they actually grade out higher than UConn on the defensive rebounding end. Saint Mary’s is a good three point shooting team, who went ice cold in round 1 (3 of 17 from three point range against VCU). Despite that terrible shooting performance, Saint Mary's still found a way to win by double digits. It would be surprising to see Saint Mary's struggle again to that extreme from the three point line. UConn is the rightful favorite here, but laying 4.5 points is too many for us to stomach. The UConn moneyline is also too pricey for our interest. Instead, we will fade the public, and take the +4.5 points with Saint Mary's.
