The Rays offense was shutout yesterday in game 1. There is something interesting to note from that game. Tampa Bay only attempted 6 sacrifice bunts over the course of the entire 162 game season. Rays manager Kevin Cash hasn’t played conservative all season, but we saw that change yesterday. The Rays attempted several sacrifice bunts in the 2nd inning, one of which ended in a disastrous pop up to the pitcher. We expect the Rays offense to be more aggressive today against a struggling starting pitcher in Nathan Eovaldi. In Eovaldi’s last two starts of the season, he allowed 12 earned runs, including 4 home runs (8.1 innings). Rays starter Zach Eflin has been very good at home this season, holding an 11-4 record and 3.30 ERA in Tampa. The Rays bullpen is better. We like Tampa’s edge in the later innings. If the Rays offense can muster some runs, we trust Eflin and the Tampa bullpen to do the rest. Rays on the moneyline for 1 unit is our wager.
