One MLB Underdog To Consider On Saturday May 20th 2023
Red Sox @ Padres 10:10pm
Red Sox Moneyline (+114)
After dealing with injuries throughout the last few seasons, Red Sox starter Chris Sale looks to be trending back toward elite form. He’s averaging over 11 strikeouts per 9 innings so far in 2023. Sale is coming off of his best start of the season against a tough Cardinals lineup (8 innings, 3 hits, 9 strikeouts, 1 earned run). It’s important to note that Sale had a brutal start to the season, which makes his 5.40 ERA a bit misleading. He’s looked sharp in 3 consecutive starts, and we anticipate another productive start for Chris Sale tonight. Padres starter Joe Musgrove has not been good this season. His metrics are at career worst marks. Musgrove is allowing an average of over 2 home runs, 11 hits, and 4 walks per 9 innings. His FIP sits at an alarming 6.14. To put that into perspective, Musgrove finished with a 3.59 FIP in 181 innings last season. He’s allowing more than double the amount of home runs, and almost double the amount of walks from last season. To make matters worse for Musgrove, the Red Sox offense has been crushing right handed pitching this season. Boston ranks 1st in the MLB in batting average against righties (.272), and 2nd in OPS (.797). We are going to back the starter who looks to be in much better form. Give us the road dogs on the moneyline.
