One MLB Bet To Consider On Tuesday August 1st 2023
Cubs vs. Reds 8:05pm
Cubs Moneyline (-159)
We are siding with the Cubs in this matchup for a few reasons. First, their offense is scorching hot right now. Over the last 15 days, the Cubs lead the MLB in batting average (.297), on base percentage (.368), and OPS (.857). The Reds are starting righty Ben Lively, who has been average this season. Lively holds a decent 3.76 ERA, but his FIP sits at 4.80. It’s also worth noting that Lively has been facing bottom tier offenses in the majority of his starts. On the Cubs side of this pitching matchup is lefty Justin Steele. If you aren’t familiar with Steele, he ranks top 5 in the MLB in ERA (2.87), and he’s tied for 2nd in the league in wins with 11. The Reds lineup had success against Steele back in May, but Cincinnati's offense has gone ice cold against lefties. In the month of July, the Reds offense ranks in the bottom 10 in nearly every hitting metric against left handed pitching. The Cubs bullpen has been one of the best in baseball over the last month, whereas the Reds bullpen has been trending in the wrong direction. Our wager is on the Cubs moneyline.
