One MLB Bet To Consider On Thursday May 18th 2023
Yankees @ Blue Jays 7:07pm
Yankees +0.5 First 5 Innings (-115)
Attempting to evaluate Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios is an easy way to give yourself a headache. His career to this point has been a roller coaster filled with extreme highs and lows. Toronto has won two of his last three starts, but Berrios metrics are trending in the wrong direction. His strikeout to walk rate has dropped from a 6.00 in March/April, to 2.33 in May. He’s allowed at least one home run in each of his last three starts. Dating back to last season, Jose Berrios struggled against the Yankees (5.64 ERA in 22.1 innings). It is worth noting that Berrios has been very good at home this season (2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings). On the other side of this matchup is Yankees lefty Nestor Cortes. The Rays got the better of Cortes in his last start. However, last season Nestor Cortes pitched very well against this Blue Jays lineup (1.88 ERA in 14.1 innings). Toronto’s offense may be missing a key piece in Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who is listed as day to day with a knee injury. If you head to the first 5 innings market, the Yankees +0.5 run line is being offered at an appealing (-115) price. In order for this ticket to cash, the Yankees must be tied or winning at the conclusion of the 5th inning. Our wager is a half unit.
