MLB Best Bet 4/22/2023
Astros @ Braves 7:20pm
Astros Moneyline (-110)
We are going to side with the Astros in this matchup. Braves starting pitcher Kyle Wright has not looked sharp in either of his two starts this season. He’s allowed 6 earned runs and 7 walks in his 8.2 innings. The Braves managed to win both of Wright’s starts, but his command does not look to be there quite yet. The Astros have lost 3 of the 4 games that Framber Valdez has started this season. However, Valdez has pitched very well. His ERA sits at 1.80 through 25 innings, and his strikeout rate is right on par with his career averages. Framber Valdez is one of the best pitchers in the MLB at avoiding the long ball. He's only allowed 1 home run this season, and has averaged about 0.45 home runs per 9 innings over the last 2 seasons. Both bullpens look to be closely ranked, with a slight edge going to the Braves. Offensively, the Braves have been better to this point. We opted to back the team that holds the more reliable starting pitcher. Our wager is a half unit on Astros moneyline.
